Australia’s Climate Change Warning

A recently released report highlights the increased bushfire risk that global warming poses in Australia. Somehow I don’t think this is totally at the top of the list for most Australians — seeing as though the immediate “warming” effect is the one most are worried about.

Animals facing extinction as bushfires rage across Australia

Hundreds of thousands of native Australian animals, such as koalas and kangaroos, have been killed in bushfires that have burnt across the south-east in the past two weeks. The fires, still burning in 3 eastern states, have been so big and intense that wildlife officials fear some species may become extinct as large swathes of habitat are destroyed

Australia Brushfires : Scientology Volunteer Ministers working with firefighters

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers are working at a base camp providing support to the firefighters. They set up tents for firemen, unload food trucks, prepare and pack hundreds of firemen lunches and organize the other volunteers in the area.

Scientology VMs have been instrumental in keeping these firefighters on their feet, fighting the fires, and I’ve seen some really heartwrenching stories of the heroics these guys have been involved in.

Mount Hood Climbers: What Price Glory?

What we’re they thinking?” asks a search-and-rescue volunteer in this mountain town when told about the three lost climbers stranded somewhere on Mount Hood in Oregon. “To climb a difficult ascent in the kind of weather they get over there in December is just asking for it,” said the volunteer, who preferred not to be identified.

Typhoon Durian has strained the resources of the country past capacity, with a quarter of a million families displaced from their homes.

Durian hit late in typhoon season, which usually ends in December. But if locals had hoped this would be the last typhoon of the year, they were disappointed when the nation was blasted by another one today.
